DAY 1
On my first day, I was introduced to the team and quickly got onto work with Assistant Cost Consultant Daniel Parker, measuring steel beams on CAD measure for a project I had previously worked on during my work experience at Fairhurst. At midday, I accompanied Daniel and Managing Director Tim Molden to a Harley Street site visit, where we reviewed the ongoing construction to the basement. Daniel explained that the site was a Grade II Listed building, which meant the roof could not be removed, making the project more complicated. Once back at the office, I used the measurements I’d made earlier and applied them and additional relevant information into Excel. I concluded my day by completing a cost estimate for the Fairhurst project I had started measuring earlier.
DAY 2
I supported Senior Cost Consultant Sean Ingham on a project in Canary Wharf. This included reading notes, which included room and floor issues, and putting them into Excel. Afterwards, Daniel and I completed two valuations. To end my day, I measured a feature light coffer for the first floor of the Canary Wharf project for Sean.
DAY 3
On my final day, I supported Sean again with searching the weight, length and cost of steel beams and presenting it an Excel for him. Following this, I completed some valuations using the measurements I’d taken the day before and sent them over to Tim for review.
I really enjoyed my time at MESH, it was great to be able to combine my experience at Fairhurst with my time at MESH, providing me some insight into skills needed for different disciplines within the construction industry.
